Electrifying Sarepta's Scientific Frontier

Spearheaded by Sarepta Therapeutics, the Sarepta Project Vette took place at Easton Commons in Columbus, Ohio, and involved both addition and renovation elements to convert an office building into an advanced research lab. Designed by HAWA Engineers and constructed by Danis Building Construction Co., the $6,964,953 project spanned 15 months. The comprehensive scope included new service, lighting, power, and fire alarm systems. Major electrical installations included two 3000-amp services, two 1000kW generators, nine automatic transfer switches (ATSs), eleven distribution panels, thirty-nine panelboards, two UPS units, nine transformers, 80,000 feet of branch conduit, 300,000 feet of branch wire, and 20,000 feet of service wire.

Sarepta Project Vette is a prime example of technical innovation and complex coordination in a highly specialized research environment.

The project involved transforming an existing office building into a modern research laboratory for Sarepta Therapeutics—an effort requiring not only structural updates but also significant service upgrades to support critical lab operations. With a contract value of nearly $7 million and a 15-month construction timeline, the scope included lighting, power, fire alarm systems, and substantial service upgrades.

Among the key installations were two 3000-amp services, two 1000kW generators, nine ATSs, eleven distribution panels, and thirty-nine panelboards—each requiring precision installation and planning. Adding to the complexity was the challenge of extremely limited ceiling space, which demanded accurate 3D modeling and detailed coordination across multiple trades to fit extensive utility systems within tight spatial constraints. The project’s success hinged on collaborative execution and adaptability, overcoming the hurdles of change orders, a long construction timeline, and the inherent challenges of converting a standard office into a mission-critical laboratory environment.
